SBT for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

Beck Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture; hereinafter “the Company”) has obtained certification for “Science Based Targets for SMEs” from the Science Based Targets initiative (hereinafter “SBTi”), an international climate change initiative, as a science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target.

1. About the SBT (Science Based Targets) Initiative

The SBTi is a joint initiative by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It encourages companies to set science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets (SBTs) to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The SBT for SMEs is a framework specifically designed to make it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to set SBTs.

2. Target Certified for the Company

The target recently certified by the SBTi for the Company is as follows:

  • Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions: Reduce by 48% compared to the 2023 level (by 2030).

3. Background and Significance of Certification

The Company aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. Recognizing that climate change is a critical issue for society as a whole and for our business activities, we have obtained SBT certification to strengthen our decarbonization efforts.
This certification demonstrates that the Company’s commitment to reducing GHG emissions is based on scientific evidence and contributes to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Through this, we will further promote sustainable management and meet the trust of all stakeholders, including customers, business partners, employees, and the local community.
